KUCHING: It was a historic moment for the Sarawak Bumiputera Chamber of Entrepreneurs (DUBS) when it signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Federation of Brunei Malay Traders (PPPMB) in Bandar Seri Begawan, recently.

The MoU was signed during the launch of the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Brunei (STATOB) to foster economic collaboration between the two organisations.

The business chamber congratulated the Sarawak government for the official launch of STATOB, which it said marked a significant step in the state’s ongoing efforts to explore global markets, enhance trade, and attract more tourists to the Land of the Hornbills.

DUBS president Datuk Abang Halmi Ikhwan signed for his organisation while PPPMB was represented by its president Dr. Abdul Latif Awang Chuchu.

Among those witnessing the signing were Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari Tun Openg, and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, who is also the Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development, and Minister for International Trade and Investment.

“The MoU aims to establish a framework for cooperation across various sectors, including trade, finance, investment, and tourism. This partnership is expected to strengthen bilateral trade relations and create new opportunities for businesses in both Brunei Darussalam and Sarawak,” DUBS said in a statement today.

The establishment of STATOB will serve as a vital platform for promoting Sarawak’s trade and tourism initiatives, providing resources and support to local entrepreneurs and businesses looking to expand their reach in the region.

“Both DUBS and PPPMB are enthusiastic about the prospects this collaboration will bring, paving the way for sustainable economic growth and development for their respective communities,” it said.
