KUCHING: The Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) is optimistic that the upcoming Sarawak State Budget will address the needs of local businesses, particularly micro and startup enterprises.
DUBS president Datuk Abang Helmi Ikhwan urged the state government to consider several key areas to support business growth and sustainability.
“Targeted grants and low-interest loans will be crucial in helping these new businesses establish themselves and thrive,” he told Sarawak Tribune today (Nov 1).
He also called for continued investment in infrastructure to enhance business operations and attract investment.
To support digital transformation, DUBS is anticipating funding for initiatives that will empower local businesses to remain competitive in a global marketplace.
“Access to technology and training will be vital,” he said.
The Chamber also hoped to see dedicated allocations for vocational training and skill development programmes to address the skills gap in the workforce.
Abang Helmi further pointed out the need for tailored support for key sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and technology.
“We look forward to initiatives that promote research and development and showcase local products and services,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of regulatory support and simplification.
“A commitment to reducing bureaucratic hurdles and streamlining regulations is essential for creating a business-friendly environment,” he added.
