THE motion to reprint 10,000 copies of the State Constitution was passed during the third day of the 19th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting today.
The motion was moved by Deputy Premier and Second Minister of Finance and New Economy Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and seconded by Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Law, MA63 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
Uggah said the reprint of the State Constitution will incorporate all amendments up to January 1 this year.
“The last time the authorise printing of the State Constitution was back in 2004. Since then, there have been major amendments to the State Constitution.
“It was also reported that all copies of the State Constitution then have been sold out. Hence, it is appropriate timing for the Dewan to authorise printing of more copies of the State Constitution to meet the demand of administrators, judicial, legal officers, legal professionals, and the public in and outside of the state,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang who participated in the debate on the motion, suggested that the state government reprint 20,000 copies instead of 10,000 copies.
“With those quantities, it can be distributed to schools, colleges, universities as well as to longhouses and villages,” he said.
At the same time, he said the state government can also come up with simplified explanatory booklets about the State Constitution to be printed in all major languages in Sarawak to be easily understood by the communities.
