BAU: A local man and a foreign woman were arrested for being involved in online gambling activities during an anti-gambling operation (Ops Dadu) raid on Wednesday (August 5).
According to Bau District Police Chief, DSP Poge Nyaon, the two suspects were arrested at two different locations.
The first to be arrested was a 23-year-old male at a shoplot in a commercial centre at Siniawan Central, Bau around 2pm.
“A handphone and some cash from the gambling activities were also seized from the suspect.
“The suspect also admitted to be involved in online gambling activities,” Poge said in a statement.
In the second raid conducted at coffeeshop in Siniawan Villa, Bau around 2.40pm, a a 17-year-old female, believed to be an Indonesian national from Singkawang, was arrested.
Three handphones, some cash and an exercise book with written passwords for the gambling activities were seized from the suspect.
She was also arrested under Section 6(1)(c) of Immigration Act 1959/63.
Both suspects and the seized items were handed over to investigation officers for further action.
The investigation is conducted under Section 4 (1) (c) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which provides for fines of RM5,000 to RM50,000 and imprisonment of up to three years upon conviction.
