SARIKEI: Police have arrested two men for allegedly involvement in a plastic chair fight outside a local eatery here.
The incident gained widespread attention after a 49-second video clip depicting the incident surfaced on social media last week.
In the clip, two men fought with plastic chairs as weapons. Despite attempts by a bystander to intervene, the altercation continued.
Sarikei police chief Supt Aswandy Anis confirmed that the incident happened in front of a beverage shop along Jalan Pinang Laka.
“Upon receiving a police report, we managed to arrest both suspects for further investigation.
“The case is being investigated under Section 160 of the Penal Code for causing affray in a public space,” he said in a statement last night (Mar 18).
If convicted, the suspects may face fines up to RM1,000, imprisonment for a period of up to six months, or both.
Aswandy said the police take a serious view of any incidents that jeopardise public order.
The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any criminal activity promptly to the authorities.
