KUCHING: Narcotic police here arrested two men for possessing drugs worth more than RM3,000 last Sunday.
Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah, in a statement, said a police team arrested the duo around the city at 4.10 pm after receiving information.
“Inspections led to the finding of drugs believed to be syabu with an estimated weight of 38.33g.
“The drugs valued around RM3,738.95, were seized as evidence,” he said.
The suspects and the drugs were taken to the police station for further action.
Ahsmon stated that the suspects, aged 26 and 31, would be investigated under Section 39A(1) and Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
If convicted under Section 39A(1), they are liable to be jailed up to five years and whipped up to nine lashes.
Meanwhile, under Section 39A(2), the suspect can face a jail term up to five years or lifetime imprisonment and whipping up to 10 lashes, if convicted.
He added that both men also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
He said the police always welcomed any public information on drug activities in the district.
