KOTA SAMARAHAN: Two men with a total of 10 past records under drugs were arrested for stealing telecommunication cables this morning.
Acting on information received at 4.30 am, two mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) units carrying out an integrated crime prevention operation, were despatched to the scene along Jalan Stakan to Mile 7.
Kota Samarahan OCPD DSP Sudirman Kram, who confirmed the case, said the team came across two men who were cutting cables belonging to a telecommunication company by the roadside.
“Both of them aged 29 and 30, were immediately surrounded and arrested for inspections.
“Also seized were a motorcycle, two axes, a machete, a hacksaw, a hammer, a wire cutter, a bag, a phone and a coil of wire that has been cut,” he said, adding that the items were taken to Kota Samarahan police station for further action.
Background checks found that the suspects each had five past records under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Sudirman pointed out that cable theft cases are a contributor to the increase in property crime cases under Section 379 of the Penal Code from Jan to April this year.
“We are confident that with these arrests, we will be able to solve several cases of cable theft and other theft cases in Kota Samarahan.
“The police have stepped up efforts in terms of intelligence and crime prevention operations to ensure that criminal acts, especially property crimes, can be curbed and the perpetrators are brought to justice,” he said.
