SIBU: Narcotics police arrested two men for allegedly possessing various drugs worth more than RM16,200 on Tuesday (Nov 21).
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspects, a 35-year-old local man and 40-year-old Indonesian national, were picked up for substance abuse at Lorong Ling Kai Cheng here around 9.30 pm at a shop building.
“Inspections led to the seizure of 53 plastic packets containing crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine with an estimate weight of 72.30g.
“Also found were 12 transparent plastic packets containing dried plants suspected to be cannabis-type drugs with an estimated gross weight of 100.25g and 95 pills believed to be Erimin 5 drugs with an estimated gross weight 27.24g,” he said yesterday (Nov 22).
Zulkipli said the estimated weight of the drugs was 199.79g and the total seizure value amounted to RM16,222.50.
Also seized was cash amounting to RM2,970 which was suspected to be the proceeds of drug sales.
“The results of the preliminary police screening tests conducted on both suspects were found to be positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
“The suspect are being remanded for seven days,” he added.
Zulkipli said that the case will be investigated under Section 39B, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952.
“If convicted, the suspects may face the death penalty. And if convicted under Section 15(1) DDA 1952, the suspects could be fined up to RM5,000 or be sentenced to jail for a term of up to two years or both and be placed under a two-year supervision under Section 38B DDA 1952,” he added.
