KUCHING: Two men were each fined RM3,000, in default seven months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court today for stealing cables belonging to a telecommunications company on May 22.

Nasri Mohammad, 45, and Awang Shahrizal, 37, both from Kampung Semariang Batu, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 379 of the Penal Code which was read before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar.

The court heard that on May 22 at about 5.30 am, a police team on their rounds in Kampung Semerah Padi came across two men behaving suspiciously and unloading cables from a car.

The two men were arrested and the seized items were taken to the Criminal Investigation Department Office for further investigation.

It was found that they had stolen the cables that were hidden in the bushes in the area of ​​a government agency in Kampung Semariang Batu.
