SIBU: Two 20-year old men were arrested separately by the police here for possession of drugs.
Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the first suspect was detained at around 1 am at Lorong Indah Timur in Sibu.
This led to the discovery of five plastic packets of Ecstasy weighing around 180 grams and eight packets containing crystalline substances believed to be Ketamine weighing around 10 grams.
Further investigations revealed that the second suspect, also a 20-year old man, was arrested for possession of drugs.
The police found 20 packets of Ecstasy weighing around 718 grams and 34 packets containing crystalline substances believed to be Ketamine weighed around 45.77 grams.
The second suspect was staying at an unnumbered house in Lorong Ulu, Sungai Merah in Sibu.
Zulkipli added that the total substances weighed around 953.77 grams and valued around RM35,315.50 were seized as evidence.
“Both the suspects were tested positive for Ketamine,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.
If convicted under Section 39B, the suspects may face the death penalty.
Meanwhile, if convicted under Section 15(1) (a), the suspects may be fined up to RM5,000 or jailed for a term up to two years or both, and be placed under supervision for two years under Section 38B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
