KUCHING: Two friends were sentenced to ten months in prison by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for the offense of possessing stolen property, a Perodua Myvi, last July.
Lincoln Ijau Jarau, 32, and Mohd Farizul Zainudin, 28, pleaded guilty to the charge read before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.
According to the charge, they jointly possessed a stolen Perodua Myvi belonging to a 56-year-old woman.
They committed the offense at a restaurant car park in Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, at approximately 7.40 am, on July 4.
Therefore, both defendants were charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34 of the same code.
According to the facts of the case, the complainant, who is the victim’s father, reported that his daughter’s car had been stolen when it was parked at a restaurant car park on Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, at around 7.40 am, on July 4.
The estimated loss suffered by the victim is around RM20,000.
The complainant subsequently made a police report for further action and investigation.
Both defendants were successfully apprehended with a car believed to belong to the victim on the roadside of Taman Sepakat Jaya, at around 11.30 am on August 4.
The investigation revealed that the vehicle belonged to the victim based on the recognition of the car key and remote control and the car’s engine chassis number.
The prosecution of the case was handled by Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while the defendants were not represented by lawyers.
