SIMANGGANG: Despite having reasons to go out but without any travel permit from relevant authorities, one would still be issued with RM1,000 compound, said Sri Aman District Police Chief DSP Bingkok John.

Yesterday at 1.40am, police arrested two individuals at a roadblock at Bungkang junction.

According to Bingkok, the two were issued a RM1,000 compound each for violating the movement control order (MCO).

“The suspects, aged 21 and 25 years old, were riding a motorcycle towards Simanggang town when they were arrested.

When questioned, the suspects claimed that they were going to visit their relatives. However, when asked to show their travel permit, they failed to do so.

“Accordingly, the police took them to Sri Aman police station for compounding purposes,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Bingkok said that they are compounded under Regulation 3 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) (No 2) 2020.

In fact, they can also be punished under Rule 11 for violating the MCO directive.

He further added that the two suspects can also be charged by the Ministry of Health (MoH) in court if they fail to pay the compound within the stipulated time.

“Therefore, I advise the public to continue to comply with the MCO’s directive or face compound action,” he said.
