MIRI: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau pointed out that it is the duty of every citizen of this world in particular among the rural community of Telang Usan to care for all under-privileged citizens.
He lauded the effort made by Temenggong Elizabeth Deng as chairman of Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PPDK) Eda Beran Long Laput and her entire committee members who have worked so hard in organising many activities and events such as PPDK Family Day.
“This kind of event brings tremendous joy and happiness to our participating under-privileged citizens both young and old,” he said at the open day jointly organised with the Rotary Club of Miri District 3310 at Long Laput recently.
More than 400 people including 200 registered OKU attended the open day.
“Taking care of the OKU or these special people should not be shouldered by their parents alone … In fact, our religious beliefs taught us to care for those around us especially in times of need. I am also glad to see parents with under-privileged children who are willing to bring their children,” he reckoned.
Dennis also hoped that other local NGOs especially from the Kayan and Kenyah community will follow the footsteps of the Rotary Club to help the rural communities especially in Ulu Baram.
During the two-day programme, various activities including health screening, seminars, haircut, deworming, cooking demonstration, handicraft workshop, games, entertainment and many more were held.
Bags of rice collected from donors were also distributed at the event.
Also present were Rotary Club of Miri president Jenny Liew, Cr Jau Eng, TK Robert Luhat of Long Laput and representatives from Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Miri.
