KUCHING: The E-Sports (Electronic Sports) Games may very well be a huge boost to Sarawak’s socio-economy in line with the state’s digital platform initiative.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was yesterday signed between Sarawak E-sports Association (Sesa) and StartUpBorneo.MY (StartUp Borneo) on the sidelines of the Sarawak Career and Training Fair (SCAT Fair) 2019.

Sesa president Afiq Fadhli Narawi said the initiative is to empower the StartUp Borneo and E-sports committee as an ongoing effort to inspire the community, especially the youths of Sarawak who need exposure to the digital world.

“This move is in line with the state government initiatives to speed up the state’s development plan via digital economic transformation and the involvement of the youths.

“This collaboration, as an ongoing process, could draw the interest of the public to the digital industry as well as to enhance development through innovation and expertise available in our youths,” he said.

E-sports Games are developing sports in the industry and could create potential tourism market in the state, he added.

“The ultimate goal of Sesa and StartUp Borneo is to create Sarawak as an e-sports games hub.

“Towards this end, we will create a strategic eco-system in the digital e-sports games to ensure its continuity and sustainability,” said Afiq. – Sarawak Voice
