KAPIT: Kapit Community Rehabilitation Centre (PDK Kapit) held a Christmas gathering for its trainees at its premises here yesterday.

At the function, the Lions Club donated RM400 to the centre while the Youth Wing Kapit Kwang Tung Association and the Women Wing Kapit Kwang Tung Association each contributed RM300.

Chairlady of the centre Moonly Tiang explained that the centre usually organised gatherings during Gawai Dayak, Hari Raya, Christmas and the New Year.

She added that the gathering was an open day for the centre. 

She pointed out that the centre had one supervisor and two staff looking after the children with special needs.

“They train the children to be independent,” she added.

She thanked the various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and Maybank in Kapit for supporting the centre.  

Among the activities held during the gathering yesterday morning included the cutting of Christmas cake, presentation of festive gifts to the inmates, singing of Christmas songs and a luncheon reception.

Present  were an officer from the Social Welfare in Kapit  Jemat Kanchin, administrative officer Bukit Mabong District Office Jackson Kong, chairlady of United Chinese Association Kapit Sng Geok Yien, president of Lions Club Kapit, Hu Min Ming, Youth Wing chief of  Kapit Kwang Association Liew Mee Kiong, youth chief of Kapit Kwang Tung Association Kong Sien Kiong, parents and children with special needs.
