MIRI: One victim died while another survives in a tragic road accident involving a four-wheel drive pickup.

The State Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (Bomba) said an emergency call was received by Miri Central Bomba Operations Centre regarding an accident at 1.37am this morning (Sept 23).

The accident happened at Jalan Taman Awam. A team from Miri Central Bomba station was despatched to the incident location.

“Upon arrival, the operations commander said that a pickup vehicle was involved in the accident.

“The team was also informed that the vehicle lost control while on the way heading towards the city centre from Miri Airport.

“Two victims were involved – one managed to get out of the vehicle by the public while another was still trapped inside and was unconscious,” it said.

The rescue team used special rescue tools to extract the trapped, unconscious victim from the vehicle who was later pronounced dead by medical officials on site.

The body of the victim was then handed over to the police for further action.

Once the situation on the road was safe and after clearing the debris and the oil spill from the accident, the operations ended at 3.06am.
