SIBU: Twenty people from four households were left homeless after their homes at Jalan Tiong Hua here were destroyed by a fire early this morning.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sibu Zone chief Janggan Muling said six houses were razed to the ground in the 5am incident.
Three of the houses were occupied while another two were empty, he said, adding that the sixth house was used as a shop and the owner was not at the scene.
“The fire first broke out in two houses and it quickly spread to the entire block because of a strong wind,” he said today.
The Bomba operations centre revealed that the fire was brought under control at 5.38am and that all the occupants of the houses managed to escape and were safe. It added that the families were tenants of the houses.
“They are now temporarily putting up with their relatives,” it added.
