SIBU: An early morning fire broke out at the Pos Laju facility at Jalan Ding Lik Kong today (May 30) but was quickly brought under control, thanks to the swift response of Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba). No injuries were reported.
The call reporting the structural fire was received at 5.36 am, prompting a team to be dispatched quickly to the scene.
“Upon arrival, firefighters saw a fire which had ignited three mail delivery racks inside the Pos Laju delivery room.
“Thick smoke filled the premises, but firefighters managed to contain the blaze to just one per cent of the building, which measured 200 by 168 square feet. Using a 200-foot hose with two nozzles, the team effectively doused the flames.
“Additionally, the operations commander ordered the ventilation of the building by opening all windows and doors to clear out the smoke,” he said.
Once the fire was fully extinguished, firefighters installed barriers and secured part of the premises for further investigation. They thoroughly checked for any potential sources that could cause a reignition of the fire before leaving the site.
