KUCHING: The ‘Handling Sexual Harassment in the Workplace’ programme is one of the Ministry of Transport Sarawak’s (MoTS) early steps to combat sexual harassment in the workplace.
According to MoTS permanent secretary Alice Jawan Empaling, the programme aimed to increase awareness and understanding on the meaning of sexual harassment, the impact on the victim and the support as well as action that could be taken if sexual harassment occurred at work.
“MoTS’ management and staff need to take the issue of sexual harassment in the workplace seriously by taking proactive measures and not dismissing any complaints.
“Having said that, I hoped that this kind of programme would be carried out more actively.
“This is to foster our awareness of the issue of integrity misconduct in the organisation while also supporting the Sarawak government’s desire to cultivate integrity in the state public service,” she said when launching the programme here.
The programme was attended by some 65 MoTS staff and the briefing was delivered by the Human Resource Development and Management Unit from the Premier’s Department, administrative officer Jessie Melling.
