Eateries, other food businesses can operate but only for takeaways

KUCHING: More food and beverage (F&B) businesses in Sarawak will be allowed to operate during the movement control order (MCO).

This is among the latest standard operating procedures (SOPs) announced last night (May 31) by the Sarawak National Security Council (NSC).

Among the permitted food businesses are food trucks, pawn shop, roadside hawkers, circulating hawkers, roadside food stalls, food courts and kiosks.

These businesses are only allowed to operate via takeaway, drive through and delivery service. Dine-in or park-and-dine are strictly prohibited during the MCO period.

Other than that, optical shops and laundry shops, including self-service laundromats which were previously prohibited, are now allowed to operate.

Businesses prohibited from operating are as follows:

  • department stores (aside from the food supply chain)
  • home-based eateries
  • merchandise shops at tamu or markets (clothing, handicraft and others)
  • convenience stores (100%, DIY, Supersave and others)
  • licensed money
  • phone shops (sales, reload, accessories)
  • hair salons
  • barbershops
  • beauty centres
  • car accessories shops
  • car wash
  • pest control
  • fabric shops
  • furniture stores

These SOPs will last until June 14.
