MUKAH: The Sarawak government emphasises education in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to produce human capital that will drive Sarawak as a developed and high-income state by 2030.
Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said that the state government gives priority and large allocations in the education sector.
“Various initiatives have been implemented especially in the development and promotion of STEM in the education sector.
“This effort is also made possible through collaboration with higher education institutions, research institutions, schools, non-governmental organisations, public and private sectors,” he said.
He said this when officiating at the closing ceremony of the STEM@Mukah 2023 Carnival, at the Multipurpose Hall of Mukah Polytechnic, here, yesterday.
Commenting further, he said, parents also play an important role in fostering their children’s interest in STEM or science at school.
“In that regard, the Federation of Sarawak Melanau Associations and the Mukah Melanau Association also placed the education agenda as the core of community development.
“This is to ensure that young people can move along with the advancement of technology today,” he said.
Organised by the Mukah Polytechnic Mathematics, Science and Computer Department, this carnival also has the cooperation of the Federation of Sarawak Canoeing Associations, the Mukah Canoeing Association, the Mukah District Education Office, SMK Three Rivers and the Mukah Youth Innovation and Transformation Centre (MYTIC).
He added that this was the second time the carnival was held and the first was organised in 2022.
