BINTULU: Rural communities must give primary importance to education because it can bring about change in their lives.
Selangau MP Edwin Banta said education has the potential to change the future of families.
“My main agenda as a representative of the people is to ensure the children in the Selangau parliamentary constituency receive the best education and can continue their studies to the highest level.
“Through education, one day you will be able to change the fate of your families,” he said at a Current Issues Briefing Programme at Rumah Maong Anggat here recently.
Edwin said students from the Selangau constituency who successfully pursue their studies to the degree level at Public Higher Education Institutions (IPTA) will be given a one-off assistance of RM1,200.
“Besides education, economic development is also one of the main focuses. For instance, oil palm and coffee cultivation are seen as ways to increase family income because these crops yield good results and are easier to manage,” he added.
At the same programme, Edwin also presented a cheque to eight Village Development and Security Committees in the Selangau area.
