SIMANGGANG: Education plays a vital role in shaping the future leadership legacy of Sarawak, says Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Datuk Francis Harden Hollis.

He noted that advancements in education, especially in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as well as science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) streams are useful in facing the fourth industrial revolution (IR 4.0) era, where technical expertise greatly contributes to national development.

Harden speaks during the event.

As such, he called for parents to continue collaborating through the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG) and the school governing board (LPS) to ensure that children receive appropriate education.

“The ministry continually provides support to ensure that students gain technical expertise, especially in producing quality human capital that meets current technical skill requirements.

“The ministry’s role in developing human capital begins with promoting interest in science subjects by organising innovation competitions from the primary school level to higher education institutions.

“Focus is also directed towards educators to enhance their knowledge through reskilling and upskilling programmes related to subjects that are the main focus in STEM,” he said.

He said this when officiating the newly completed project for SJK(C) Chung Hua Undop, which includes the construction of an erosion retaining wall, a drop-off area, and a parking lot.

The RM200,000 Rural Transformation Project (RTP) aimed to address critical safety issues related to landslides and provide improved facilities for the school’s community.

During the event, Harden, who is the Simanggang assemblyman, also presented Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant checks totaling RM20,000 to four organisations with each receiving RM5,000.

The beneficiaries were the PTA of SJK(C) Chung Hua Undop, the SJK(C) Chung Hua Undop LPS, the Batu Lintang Chinese Charitable Trust Board, and the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Cina Batu Lintang, Undop.
