KUCHING: The Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) views the 2020 Budget as setting a clear direction based on the vision of shared prosperity whereby the education sector has received the lion’s share of allocations at RM64.1 billion.
With the allocation of RM783 million to repair dilapidated schools in Sabah and Sarawak, STU president Macky Joseph believed the budget was necessary in providing an environment conducive to learning.
“It has been expected that the Education Ministry would receive the lion’s share in the 2020 Budget. The allocation was raised from RM60.2 billion in 2019 to RM64.1 billion.
“We hope the budget will be fully utilised to speed up repair and upgrading works for dilapidated schools in Sarawak,” he said in a statement yesterday.
