SARAWAK Energy is constructing a new substation to provide efficient power supply to Betong district and its surrounding areas such as Engkilili, Spaoh and Debak.
Utilities Assistant Minister (Rural Electricity) Datuk Liwan Lagang said the project would be completed by the second quarter of 2020.
Liwan explained that the new substation will have six outgoing feeders to distribute electricity to Betong, Ulu Layar, Spaoh and Debak, compared to only one feeder from the Engkilili substation at present.
He said when replying to a question from Mohamad Razi Sitam (GPS-Saribas) during the question and answer session at the august House yesterday.
He also revealed that Sarawak Energy is building another substation with a capacity of 33-kilovolts at Jalan Jung Kong Betong. This is expected to be completed by January 2020.
“When the works are completed, we hope that the occasional power disruption in Betong will be reduced and that electricity can be supplied directly to Tanjung Assam, Lidong and Maktab Rendah Sains Mara, Betong.”
