MIRI: Efforts are being intensified to battle the bushfires here as they spread from Kuala Baram to Curtin University in Senadin.
As fire ravages the area, dozens of firemen from both the Miri and Lopeng fire stations have been deployed.
The teams are also supported by units from conglomerate Shin Yang Group and the Drainage and Irrigation Department.
The bushfires have since destroyed another 10 hectares of land at the affected areas.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Operations Centre detailed three strategies yesterday – ground units, air unit and flooding.
The Miri Air Unit carried out a total of 18 water bombings from 2pm to 5pm.
Flooding efforts were carried out surrounding the Curtin University areas.
Following this “direct attack” tactics, a total of 10 acres near SK Kuala Baram II had been successfully put out.
As at 6pm yesterday, the Air Pollutant Index went down to 56 from 75, recorded at 5am yesterday.
