KUCHING: Police have arrested eight more individuals in a movement control order (MCO) compliance operation at Kampung Seberang Hilir yesterday.

Kuching district deputy police chief Supt Merbin Lisa stated that the operation was also assisted by Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) with a total of 39 police officers and 12 DBKU personnel involved.

“So far, we have arrested 8 individuals in this operation. However, it is still ongoing and we do not have the exact figure to inform yet.

“But we will inform again once we have the exact figure,” he said when met by reporters yesterday afternoon.

Apart from the compliance operation, Merbin also stated that the police have also despatched their intelligence unit to monitor on the ground.

“If they found a certain area that have elements of non-compliance to the order, we will set up a team to carry out the same operation,” he mentioned.

He further advised the public to continue to abide by the orders that are issued by Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and the police.

The compliance is important to ensure that the transmission chain of Covid-19 can be dealt with entirely.

“If there are still those who are stubborn, then the government’s wish to be free of Covid-19, will not be achieved.

“Therefore, please abide by the government and the authorities’ orders, so that we can prevent the virus’ transmission.

“Of course, we do not want the MCO to be extended and if there are still those who are stubborn, then it could not be achieved,” he said.
