Eight foreign women nabbed in entertainment outlet raid

SIMANGGANG: Eight Indonesian women were arrested for allegedly working without permits at an entertainment centre along Jalan Hollis.

Sri Aman police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said that the arrests were made in an ‘Ops Noda/Pusat Hiburan’ raid by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) around 10.30 pm on Tuesday.

“Examinations found that the women, aged between 17 and 27, were believed to be employed as customer service employees at the premises, and they failed to produce any valid travel document during inspections.

“The team also arrested a 54-year-old local man for allegedly hiring the foreign women to work at the entertainment outlet,” he said in a statement.

All of the suspects were taken to Sri Aman district police headquarters (IPD) for further actions.

Mathew pointed out that the women are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 while, the man is being investigated under Section 55B of the same Act.

In addition, seven local men, who are believed to be patrons in the entertainment centre, were also taken to Sri Aman IPD for documentation purposes before being released.
