BINTULU: Narcotics police arrested eight men on suspicion of substance abuse on the first two days of June.

Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomew Umpit said five locals and a foreigner were arrested at Jalan Abang Galau on June 1.

Police also seized 3.6g of drugs believed to be syabu from them.

“All of them aged between 16 and 47, will be investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a jail term of up to five years and a RM100,000 fine, upon conviction.

“In addition, five of them tested positive for drugs while the other tested negative. Those tested positive for drugs will also be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act,” he said.

The two suspects who were arrested for substance abuse on June 2.

The next day (June 2), police picked up two locals believed to be involved in substance abuse at Jalan Tun Hussein Onn.

The suspects, aged 23 and 24, tested positive for drugs and will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The suspects are liable to a fine up of RM5,000 or a jail term of up to two years, and two years supervision.
