PADAWAN: Traffic police have arrested eight locals for allegedly riding their motorcycles dangerously in an operation dubbed ‘Ops Samseng Jalanan’ last night (Aug 3).

Padawan OCPD Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi said that the operation was carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division along Jalan FAC.

He added that the riders were spotted performing dangerous stunts with their motorcycles and endangering their lives and other road users.

“The suspects, aged between 17 and 30, were taken into custody for further actions,” he said when contacted.

The case is being investigated under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for a fine up to RM15,000, imprisonment up to five years and licence disqualification up to five years

In addition, police also confiscated 13 motorcycles under Section 60 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1978 for various offences.

Mohd Irwan added that throughout the operation, the team had inspected 128 motorcycles and issued a total of 305 traffic summonses against the motorists for various offences.
