KUCHING: An elderly man fainted and sustained head injuries due to fatigue while extinguishing a fire in his house at Jalan Kim Seng this morning (May 1).

According to a spokesperson for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the 79-year-old was found unconscious with forehead injuries at the car porch of the house.

Paramedics who were called to the scene performed CPR on the victim and treated his injuries before taking him to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.

Earlier, firemen from Batu Lintang were deployed to the scene after receiving an emergency call regarding a fire around 7.55am.

Upon arrival, the team confirmed that an electrical short circuit occurred on the top floor of the house and the fire had caused five per cent damage to the ceiling.

However, the fire had been put out by the tenants comprising two men (including the victim) and a teenage boy.

The team later took over the scene to ensure that there were no remaining embers.
