SIMUNJAN: An elderly man, reported missing yesterday (July 14) after failing to return home from a fishing trip at Muara Sebuyau, has been found safe and sound.

Ong Kim Huat, 65, was found around 9.15 am this morning along the rocky coast of Pulau Burung.

Rescuers from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) made the finding after departing from Muara Tebas jetty and conducting a search around Pulau Burung.

Following the discovery, Ong was taken to the Sebuyau search and rescue (SAR) control post and handed over to paramedics for a health check-up.

The operation, involving a total of 46 personnel from MMEA, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Civil Defence Force (APM), police and marine police, was officially called off at 10.40am.

Earlier, Ong’s family reported that he had left around 2.30 pm on Friday (July 12) to fish near a river at Kampung Demak Baru, Phase 1, Jalan Bako.

They received his last known location via WhatsApp at 5.02 pm the same day, indicating he was at Muara Sebuyau. His family subsequently filed a report for further search assistance.
