KUCHING: An elderly man sustained burns when his house at Siol Kandis here caught fire this morning (Nov 26).

The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said firefighters from the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station were immediately directed to the scene after a report was received at 9.12am.

Firemen from the Padungan fire station were also deployed to assist with the operation.

“A two-storey house was completely razed by the fire upon the arrival of firemen from both stations.

“It was not a permanent structure. The top floor of the house is the living area while the ground floor is used as a shop,” it said today.

It added that there were two victims, a 72-year-old man who sustained burns to the chest and right hand, and his daughter, 22, who escaped unharmed.

Both of them were treated by medical officials on scene before they were transported to the hospital.

Firemen were able to control the fire at 9.44am. They conducted inspections of the house before ending the operations at 12pm.
