KUCHING: Hope Place has come to the aid of an elderly man by contributing a new bed, mattress and kitchen cabinet, courtesy of several kind-hearted donors.

Thiam Kian Look is a 59-year-old man who lives alone at 21st Mile in Beratok. He has difficulty walking and Hope Place started helping him since last year.

“After visiting him at his home, the Hope Place team found that his bed was in a terrible state and it had sunken.

“Uncle’s old-fashioned kitchen food cabinet was also broken and according to him, his food was always eaten by rats,” said Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan.

He said that after publicising the situation via local newspapers, several donors had contacted the organisation to offer assistance.

With this, Hope Place was able to provide the new items for Thiam.

“Uncle Thiam was so grateful and overjoyed that strangers in Kuching were willing to help an old man like him,” he said.
