SERIAN: An early morning accident involving a car and a motorcycle claimed the life of an elderly woman at KM88, Jalan Kuching-Sri Aman on Tuesday (June 7).
Sarawak traffic police chief Supt Bingkok John said the victim, identified as Basat Jaba, 72, from Kampung Bayor, Balai Ringin, was riding her motorcycle alone prior to the crash around 8.30am.
Investigation found that the victim was believed to have come out of a U-turn junction before a car travelling from Serian to Sri Aman, crashed into her.
“The 32-year-old driver did not have enough time to avoid the victim due to the victim exiting the U-turn suddenly.
“The victim, who suffered head injuries, was pronounced dead by paramedics,” Supt Bingkok said, adding that the body was taken to Serian Hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the car driver, who is attached to the Kuching police headquarters, did not sustain any injuries.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
