BINTULU: An elderly farmer died from severe injuries after she was hit by a car while crossing the road along Mile 31, Jalan Miri-Bintulu last Saturday.
Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Bingkok John when contacted today, confirmed that the fatal accident happened around 5.50pm.
“Preliminary investigation found that the accident occurred when the car driven by a 30-year-old man, was moving fast from Samalaju to the town centre.
“All of a sudden, the victim came out to cross the road from the middle road divider area,” he said.
The victim identified as Chandu Jiram, 74, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene due to head and body injuries.
Bingkok said the body of the victim was taken to the Bintulu Hospital for post-mortem.
The motorist was uninjured in the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987.
