GAINESVILLE (Florida): Election is the last resort if the federal government’s political turmoil fails to resolve, stressed Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He described the current situation as ‘impasse’ — a situation in which no progress is possible.

“If this situation is not resolved within a short time, for me, there is no other option — they (federal) should empower the people to decide which party should led the federal government,” he told reporters when met here.

According to Abdul Karim, who is also the Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, if this happens, Sarawak also needs to be prepared for the state election as both elections are in close proximity.

“InshaAllah, we (Gabungan Parti Sarawak and PBB) are ready.

“I believe that Sarawakians also understand this current situation and they can certainly accept the fact if both elections are to be held in the near future,” he added.

At the same time, the Asajaya assemblyman also requested his party mates to remain calm, not be too emotional and to avoid unwanted things when facing this situation.
