MUKAH: The election process involves many laws which are closely related with one another, asserted Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo.
These laws comprise the Federal Constitution; State Constitution, Election Commission Act,1957; Election Act,1958 (Act 19); Election Offences Act, 1954 (Act 5); Election Regulations (Perjalanan Pilihan Raya),1981; Election Regulations (Voters Registration),2002; and Election Regulations (Postal Voting), 2003, the people’s representative pointed out.
“Because of that, election has to be held when the time comes, either when the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) is dissolved, or when its tenure has expired resulting in it to be automatically dissolved,” he told New Sarawak Tribune via WhatsApp on Tuesday.
He was commenting on a proposal for an amendment of the Sarawak Constitution to extend the term of the DUN until it is safe to hold a state election.
The proposal was made by Gerald Rentap (PBB-Layar) when debating on the Temporary Measures for Reducing the impact of Coronavirus Disease, 2019 (Covid-19) Bill, 2020, during the DUN sitting in Kuching on Monday (Nov 9).
His proposal was over his concerns of the possibility that the state election would be held soon.
Yussibnosh (PBB-Tellian), a former Balingian assemblyman is currently in Kuching attending the DUN sitting from Nov 9 to13.
