MIRI: A fire engulfed an electrical repair shop in Lutong Baru, Jalan Point Setia, Lorong Fiona 2 on Tuesday night, near here. Luckily no one is injured in the incident.
Miri Fire and Rescue Services Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said in a statement yesterday, two fire engines from Lopeng and Miri fire stations were despatched to the scene after receiving a distressed call on the incident.
“We received the call at around 10.45pm; we sent two teams, from Miri and Lopeng fire stations to the location,” said Law.
“The fire engulfed the shop at the ground floor; no victims were involved in this fire,” he added.
The incident also shocked the building’s eight tenants occupying the first floor.
According to one of the tenants, Christopher Jubang, 29, fortunately that night,he and his wife were still awake.
“I smelled smokes and saw plumes of smokes so fearing that it might be fire, I ran to the balcony and looked downstairs. It was then I saw it was surely fire ravaging the shop downstairs,” he said.
Christopher immediately shouted and ordered his wife and other tenants to get out of their rooms.
An ambulance was also seen arriving at the scene.
A teenage daughter of one of the tenants was seen being brought into the ambulance as she was in a state of shock.
Prior to the incident, the teenage girl, Nur NajwaYunus and her 38 year-old mother and her younger sibling, aged seven months, were resting inside their rented room of the building. They were alerted by a loud shouting ordering them to get out of the building immediately.
“Thanks to Christopher as he has saved all of us,” said Erna, the girl’s mother.
According to Law, the fire had damaged 80 per cent of the shop.
However, the actual losses and causes of the incident are yet to be determined as investigation is underway.
