KUCHING: Seven commercial premises around Matang, Batu Kawa and Kota Sentosa had their electricity supply cut during a crackdown against illegal gambling by the authorities on Nov 13 and 14.
Five were located in Matang while one each in Kota Sentosa and Batu Kawa.
According to a press statement issued here yesterday, the said premises were suspected of being used to operate illegal gambling activities.
The integrated operation was jointly conducted by Padawan District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Department with Sarawak Energy Berhad under the provision of Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
The statement added that the operation would be conducted from time to time in an effort to eradicate illegal gambling activities especially in Padawan district.
