KUCHING: Sarawakians will benefit from the discounts on electricity and water bills for six months beginning next month till September.
This was among the measures announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in ‘Sarawakku Sayang Special Aid Package’ to assist Sarawakians badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Domestic, commercial and industrial consumers will be given discounts of five to 25 per cent on their monthly electricity bills for six months,” he said during a press conference yesterday at Wisma Bapa Malaysia.
He said the average cost of monthly electricity bill discount is RM27.8 million and the cumulative cost of discounts amounts to RM166.8 million.
“The discounts will benefit 686,847 users throughout Sarawak,” he said.
As for discounts on water bills, he said domestic, commercial and industrial consumers will be given 10 to 25 per cent on their monthly bills for six months.
“This special one-off discount will benefit 568,247 consumers throughout the state,” he said.
The average monthly water bill discounts would be around RM4.2 million and the cumulative discounts are RM25.26 million.
“These (electricity and water bill) special one-off discounts will be borne by the state government,” he said.
