SONG: All parties need to proudly hoist the Malaysian flag to demonstrate their love for the country.

Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan said it is important everyone proudly waves the Jalur Gemilang as a symbol of their patriotic spirit and to further enliven the National Month celebration.

He pointed out that this is crucial to instilling a sense of patriotism among the people towards the nation.

Lidam said it aligns with this year’s national theme, “Malaysia Madani: Unity Aspiration, Fulfilling Hopes,” which resonates with the government’s commitment to developing a united nation with a strong sense of unity and living in peace and prosperity.

He said this when officiating at a Jalur Gemilang Merdeka Expedition (KMJG) district level programme at Rumah Edward Nanga Lajan on Sunday (Aug 20).

He added that every year, as National Month approaches, it serves as a reminder of the spirit of patriotism and commemorates the struggle for independence that has been achieved.

“Although we are no longer under colonial rule, we still face various challenges that can threaten the unity that has been built over the years. This sense of patriotism needs to be embraced by all segments of society, especially the younger generation,” he said.

Earlier, Lidam led the convoy consisting of 20 vehicles from various government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

The convoy started from the Song Community Hall and toured around the town before heading to Rumah Edward Nanga Lajan.

The Song KMJG programme included exhibitions by various agencies, health screenings and educational lectures by the Song Education Office.

Also present were acting district officer Harry Bruce Edwin; political secretary to the Works Minister, Ambrose Abong Bugek; the political secretary to the Premier, Tapah Atta; Song Education Officer, Etam Linggi; and the representative of the District Police Headquarters, M. R. Farith.
