MIRI: The government has always remained steadfast in its commitment to practice inclusiveness to ensure the needs of all communities are taken care of in the state.
“By embracing inclusiveness, the government has created harmony and mutual respect among the state’s diverse communities,” said state Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.
Speaking at the Federation of Chinese Associations Miri Division Sarawak (FCA) Chinese New Year dinner here Friday he added, that Sarawak is indeed blessed as peace, unity, harmony and mutual respect and understanding have always prevailed.
The guest of honour at the dinner was Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
It was Junaidi’s first visit to the city after his appointment as Governor.
“We can see that our state government takes care of all communities and all religions … for example Chinese education, the government has recognised the UEC qualification since the late Tok Nan become Chief Minister and by our present Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg),” Lee said.
He added Abang Johari also increased allocations for Chinese independent schools from RM3 million during the late Tok Nan’s time to RM10 million.
At the event, FCA also disbursed financial aid totaling RM10,000 to two Chinese secondary schools – SMK Chung Hua Miri and Riam Road Secondary School (each received RM5,000) for their Chinese culture development activities.
These two two are adopted schools of FCA.
Also present were Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Ripin Lamat and Mayor Adam Yii.
