KUCHING: Fishermen at the grassroots level need to embrace modern fishing methods facilitated by advanced equipment to propel the fishing industry forward.
Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) chairman Muhammad Faiz Fadzil said its implementation also requires the incorporation of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to advance the sector.
He stressed the significance of training fishermen in using these technologies, urging their integration to drive evolution in the field.
“The world is now moving in a more sophisticated direction, so we should not rely only on conservative methods to catch fish.
“Therefore, we need to emphasise the usage of technologies to the younger generation so that they study hard to bring changes to increase entrepreneurship and competitiveness in this sector,” he said.
He said this while attending the Opening Ceremony of the Academic Improvement of Fishermen’s Children programme at SK Buntal here today (Dec 16).
Furthermore, Faiz Fadzil highlighted the diverse potential of every child and the importance of nurturing their abilities through various programmes.
“That is why we want to hone the children’s abilities through various programmes so that they can create modern tools based on technology to improve the target industry,” he said.
In this regard, he expressed hope that the effort given can provide encouragement and motivation to the younger generation to be interested and venture into the industry in order to ensure that the country’s food security is achieved.
