BINTULU: Two areas of rental housing settlements in Jalan Tun Hussein Onn here have been surrounded with barbed wire.

This installation pertains to the announcement of enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at those areas from March 5 to 18.

Bintulu Division Resident Jack Aman Luat who is also chairman of the Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) said the areas affected were Anong and Beverly Hill.

“The installation of the barbed wire is one of the measures to tighten security control in the area which has been declared as an area at risk of Covid-19 infection.

“As of March 3, out of 710 residents, a total of 54 positive cases were detected in this area (rented houses in Anong) through active case detection (ACD) screening carried out by the Bintulu Health Office,” he said.

He also said the drastic measure was taken not to make the residents’ lives difficult, but to prevent the entry of outsiders as well as to control the movement of residents as means to curb the spread of infection.

“If such approach is not taken, it will be difficult to control the Covid-19 outbreak as there are many rat trails in the area,” he added.

Bintulu district police chief Supt Zulkipli Suhaili and Bintulu divisional health officer Dr Melvin Chung accompanied Jack to inspect the situation at the two housing settlements.

The barbed wire was contributed by the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) and it was installed by the army personnel today.
