KUCHING: Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) has been mandated by the Sarawak Government to operate the Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (MySRBN) including interconnectivity, core network, and operational support systems.
Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said this would empower the digital economy in Sarawak through better internet connectivity throughout the state, including rural areas.
He said the agency also managed its data center, a Hybrid Cloud (SDECloud) solution including hosting and cybersecurity, software validation and testing, corporate IT management and managing system integrators as well as service partners.
“With this effort, any information on environmental sustainability will be able to disseminate more effectively,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Hazland was briefed on several matters including environmental sustainability and air pollution during a courtesy call from the SDEC and Swinburne University at Menara Pelita here. It was also attended by the Sarawak Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB).
Meanwhile, Swinburne University Director Prof Patrick Then briefed and updated about the university’s efforts to assist the Sarawak Government in addressing the issue of air pollution by introducing an air quality monitoring system (AQMS).
AQMS, he said, was an improvement from previous environmental quality monitoring systems to obtain air quality and pollution sources more accurately.
“With the existence of such a system can indirectly report the latest state of environmental quality as well as monitor, prevent and control the pollution from spreading further.”
“In line with the Post COVID-19 Development Plan (PCDS) 2030 which was launched by Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in July 2021, Sarawak is taking steps to achieve the aspirations of its people for economic prosperity and social inclusion driven by data and innovation through digitalization of environmental sustainability,” he added.
