Esther Law Lee Poh, the woman of many blessings, shared her remarkable and inspiring journeys to achieve the great success she has today.

The woman of many blessings

I am truly still puzzled as to where to begin writing about this incredible woman’s life story as I write this article, since I find her journey to be so astounding.

Her wonderful energy draws me in like a magnet, and I can’t get enough of her chatter and anecdotes.

In addition to being a writer, Esther Law Lee Poh is a certified worldwide motivational speaker, the first female president of the Lions Club of Kuching Host, a shareholder in multiple significant businesses, the founder and owner of a company, an inspiring mother, and many more. Just name it!

Despite her enormous success, this daughter of Law Ka Hiong and Goh Soi Chin is a very grounded individual who would much rather be the one working behind the scenes to help others succeed.

She has also received numerous international honours over the course of her 25-year entrepreneurial journey, including the Toastmasters International District 51 “Most Outstanding Toastmaster of the Year” (2004-2005), Ten Outstanding Young Malaysian (TOYM) Awards 2014, and CSR Leader, McMillan Woods Global Awards 2017.

This Lundu-born, however, does not consider herself to be a successful person since she views all of her accomplishments and success as gifts from God.

Prioritising God

Her secret to success? Nothing less than making God the centre of her daily life.

In fact, Law, who is also the founder and chairlady of the YAST Group since 2014, puts Jesus up as her role model.

According to her, Jesus had deeply influenced her life through His timeless values and principles, shaping her dedication to embodying the essence of compassion, integrity, and selfless service in all aspects of her life.

“As a Christian, I strive to emulate His teachings and lead a life guided by love, empathy, and unwavering faith.

“By consistently upholding His values, I endeavour to impact the world around me and embody the spirit of understanding, forgiveness, and inclusivity that Jesus Himself embodied.

“His selfless acts of kindness, dedication to uplifting the marginalised, and commitment to advocating for justice continually inspire me to push the boundaries of my own potential and actively seek opportunities to make a positive difference in the lives of those around me.

“In particular, Jesus’ unwavering dedication to humility, empathy, and standing up for the marginalised continues to serve as a powerful catalyst for my own personal and professional growth.

“His example urges me to push myself further, consistently strive for excellence, and approach every endeavour with genuine compassion, fairness, and a relentless pursuit of integrity,” she explained.

This 49-year-old businesswoman went on to say that her unwavering devotion to Jesus’ values and principles propels her to continually reassess and challenge herself in order to uphold His teachings in every facet of her life.

Her inspiration to pursue excellence, cultivate empathy, and bring positive change to the world around her — both personally and professionally — came from Jesus’ profound example.

“My achievements have been made possible by the grace and blessings of God, which I am deeply grateful for. Coupled with this, my unwavering passion for excellence and relentless perseverance have been crucial in propelling me towards success.

“I’ve made it a priority to set ambitious yet attainable goals and have dedicated myself wholeheartedly to their realisation.

This approach involves meticulously planning the necessary steps, finding innovative solutions, and remaining flexible in the face of unexpected obstacles.

“Moreover, a significant portion of my success can be attributed to the exceptional teams and partners I’ve had the privilege of working with throughout my journey.

“By surrounding myself with leaders who not only share my vision but also bring diverse perspectives and skills to the table, we have fostered an environment of collaboration, support, and empowerment. Together, our collective drive towards excellence has propelled us forward,” she said.

Elaborating, this third child of four siblings said that her constant dedication to learning new things is a fundamental component of her success strategy.

Law said that because business and investing are always changing, it’s important to stay ahead of the curve through ongoing education and skill development in addition to following best practices and industry trends.

This commitment to learning has allowed her to adapt to changing circumstances, embrace innovation, and refine her strategies for long-term success.

In addition, the combination of passion, perseverance, teamwork, and a commitment to continuous learning has been the driving force behind her accomplishments.

“I am firmly dedicated to maintaining these core values as I continue to pursue new heights in my endeavours, striving to glorify God through my actions and achievements,” she pointed out.

Knowledge is power

When asked about her advice for people who want to succeed, Law emphasised that we need to equip ourselves with knowledge in order to be the solution; the more we equip ourselves, the less pressure we have.

According to her, Anthony Robbins, the well-known motivational speaker who is also one of her mentors, once shared that stress comes from the unknown.

Robbins emphasised that the best course of action is to improve and equip ourselves with knowledge instead of focusing on the problem, since pressure can only be released and relieved by knowledge.

“Don’t just sit around and mope, and don’t let the lack of answers make you fearful. Thinking is not the only skill that we should have; one should also know how to ask the right question to the right person.

“If we want to reduce and beat our stress, learn and get the right answer. However, a lot of people are asking questions of the wrong people; that’s why they don’t succeed.

“To me, my life is very fulfilled and intentional because I work and seek answers from world leaders. I was guided by John C Maxwell, the leadership guru, for almost 13 years through his books and programmes, I also follow Robbins’ programme and am mentored by Toastmaster’s world president, besides making JCI International’s world president my partner,” she said.

Law added that she learned from them, was shaped by them, and took whatever was good in them. She also loved to analyse why people fail rather than why they succeed.

She stressed that learning is essential since it holds the key to success in life.

“In order to earn (to be successful), we must learn. Then, we need to do it (implement action); learning alone is not enough; you must take action and share your success with others.

“And, above all, don’t stop praying. Pray, pray, and pray, and God will answer all your prayers.

“Always remember, in order to give people a cup of tea, we must first need a pot of tea. And bear in mind to always fill our pot,” she pointed out.

“Life Senses”

Here’s another great news — Law’s book “Life Senses”, which features all 54 of her paintings and the poetry that accompanies them, will be launched on December 11, which will eventually be available and purchased through Amazon.

Fun fact: Law is also a “part-time” artist, as she paints during her free time, and guess what? At auction, her paintings were fetched for RM33,000 and RM12,000, respectively.

All proceeds from the auctions were donated to charitable organisations.

To Madam Esther, thank you for sharing your fantastic experiences with me and the readers. You proved to everyone that, when it comes to achieving success, there are no boundaries or limits; all we need to do is get the right mentor, stay focused, pray and shoot for the moon!

Keep inspiring and touching people’s lives with your incredible stories, and, not to forget, happy birthday in advance to you!
