KUCHING: The Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society recently organised a three-day two-night youth camp for some 45 survivors and the medical team from here, Sibu, Bintulu, and Miri at the Borneo Happy Farm.
The society said this was part of its holistic initiatives to support, prepare, and develop survivors for life after cancer.
“This year, our main goal was to uplift youths to cultivate self-support, self-empowerment, self-love and self-fulfillment through the theme “S.E.L.F.”, while strengthening their confidence through various team-building activities, self-care workshops and reflection exercises.
“Over the three days, we witnessed strong connections formed between youths meeting for the first time, team camaraderie, shared moments, and vulnerability. Youths also exchanged words of support, with letters secretly dropped into their love envelopes.
“These were all powerful moments, even for our team at SCCS – to watch these kids conquer cancer and grow into young adults, having dreams and taking on challenges in the real world,” it said on a social media post.
The society also said seeing the participants interact and support each other in every task thrown at them during the camp was a momentous realisation moment.
“The Youth Camp illustrates the essence of our roles in helping kids fight cancer and the public’s donations coming full circle. We are proud to present to you, our survivors. They are here because of you,” it said.
