LAWAS: Women need to be empowered, particularly in terms of their economic, safety, and health aspects, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

Thus, he said the Wanita Dinamik@KPWKM Programme at Arena Lawas was created so that they can access accurate information and methods to improve their family’s economy.

He also said that the programme is an initiative that can reach women at the grassroots level.

“Women play an important role in ensuring the well-being of a family.

“Moreover, beyond the family institution, women are also involved in nation-building, particularly at the university level, where women are the majority.

“Skilled labour is highly needed, and women certainly play an important role in this,” he said.

He said this while speaking at the Wanita Dinamik@KPWKM Programme, Kembara Kasih 2024 at Arena Lawas, here, on Saturday.

Elaborating further, the Sarawak government, through the Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK), the Sarawak Welfare Department (JKMS), and the Sarawak Women and Family Department (JWKS), has introduced various programmes and initiatives to ensure the well-being of women is safeguarded.

Meanwhile, Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri who also spoke, urged women here to take advantage of the initiatives provided through the programme.

She said this platform is beneficial in strengthening the role of women as one of the criteria contributing to the national economy.

“Surely, this initiative can help women rise out of hardship and become more dynamic, thereby creating job opportunities, earning wages, and expanding small businesses.

“Hence, everyone present today should take advantage of the opportunities offered to improve their family’s income and, subsequently, achieve a better standard of living,” she said.
