SIBU: In line with efforts to produce creative and competitive local youth in short film-making, Junior Chamber International (JCI) Mandarin Sibu in collaboration with University Technology of Sarawak (UTS) is currently holding the “The Take” Project.
According to Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek who inspired the “The Take” Project, the programme is a digital platform programme to inspire potential Sibu video content creators, especially among local youth.
“The purpose of this long-term project is to provide a platform among others with activities such as competitions and education for the youth,” he said at a press conference held at UTS’ campus here recently.
UTS’ Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid and president of the JCI Mandarin Sibu Alex Kong were also present.
Chieng added that the “The Take” Project was fully supported by UTS.
“Besides that, The Take “Project encourages youth to showcase their talents in short filmmaking.
“It also provides an opportunity for local youth to attend short film making workshops at UTS which will be conducted by professionals in various fields of short films,” he said.
Meanwhile, Khairuddin said on the “The Take” Project, UTS would provide facilities, equipment and professional training by certified tutors.
“Therefore, UTS welcomes participants to see and experience for themselves the state-of-the-art facilities available at UTS,” he said.
He also said UTS was a wholly owned university of the Sarawak government, through the Sarawak Foundation.
UTS, he pointed out, was committed to facilitating students’ access to an affordable world – class university education that nurturedcreative and entrepreneurial leaders through extensive education in science and technology.
“The Take” was a good event to encourage Sibu video content creators to showcase new talent, giving the talents an opportunity to sharpen their skills by learning from the professionals, he said.
“We take this opportunity to promote UTS as a Sibu landmark. When you think of Sibu, you will think of UTS.
“I thank YB Chieng Jin Ek for this great initiative to promote Sibu as well as UTS,” Khairuddin said.
